Pimples, breakouts and blemishes are not pretty for the teenager, not only literally but also emotionally. They mark you out for verbal barbs that can further lower your already low self-esteem. For some, the problem does not go away even after they are past their teens. Imagine walking around with zits as a grown up woman! Few things can compare with it in embarrassment value as you watch your former teen friends now sporting perfect complexions.
Sufferers typically try out every acne treatment available over the counter, such as Oxy, Clearasil and the numerous other highly advertised acne treatments. They might even meet a dermatologist when these over the counter remedies fail to work. The fact is that these remedies do not work for all. For some, they might produce some relief, temporary or long-lasting. For others, the remedies might even make things worse.
Actually, there are some alternative acne treatments that do not produce the kind of side effects advertised or prescription products can produce.
There is jojoba oil, for example. It is a natural oil derived from a shrub-like plant that is native to the dry arid regions of the west. This all natural product unclogs pores and thus control breakouts. Not only is it more effective with no side effects, it is also less expensive compared to over the counter products. You can most likely find jojoba oil at a natural food store near your place.
Another effective and simple remedy is the inexpensive pain relievers you already probably stock. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) like Ibuprofen can reduce hormonal breakouts in some women. Women who tend to break out during menstrual cycles might consider taking one or two Motrin or similar tablets. This treatment has worked for some and you can try it. However, do consult your doctor before going on it for the long term.
Probably the best of all is fish oil supplement. It is a nutritional product that can help you maintain a clear complexion. The supplement is also fast acting, providing your body with essential oils it needs. Try it before trying anything else as the oils can help your general health in addition to helping you get a clear skin.
Acne has no universal cure. What works for some might not work for others. So try different treatments instead of sticking with the same old, common, ineffective one. Once you have found what works for you, you can of course continue with it. Provided it continues to work, that is! The best option is to start with the natural products as these do not produce side effects.
