Skin Care | New Thoery On Eczema
Using harsh soaps could be the cause of eczema, rather than just exacerbating the problem, say researchers at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. Soap can strip natural oils from the skin, leaving it open to irritation and infection.
Nina Goad of the British Association of Dermatologists advises those who suffer from eczema or other dry skin complaints to moisturize frequently with a bland, non-perfumed moisturizer to create a protective barrier. And avoid the foaming agent sodium lauryl sulphate (in many soaps, bubble baths and detergents), which dried out skin. Use bath oil or a soap substitute such as aqueous cream.
